                   Astro TX Area

ATG designed, installed & commissioned the Broadcast Management system comprising:

Satellite Downlinking & Incoming Lines area

  • 60 incoming lines are synchronized, processed and audio level equalized.

Tape Ingest, Compliance editing and Versioning area

  • All media is recorded on Quantel sQ Servers under Omnibus control. The media is then prepared for transmission using Quantel sQ Cut, sQ Edit and sQ Edit Plus workstations. Following editing the media is transferred to Omneon servers for playout.

Multi-channel Transmission area

  • 30 channels are originated locally and controlled from a number of playout desks using Omnibus Colossus transmission.

Reactive Transmission Suites and Voice-Over Booths

  • 4 reactive transmission suites and voice-over booths are used for live sports production.

Master Control Room

  • The MCR monitors all outgoing and off-air channels. Miranda K2 multiviewers feed a Barco projection monitor wall. The system currently monitors 65 channels and can be expanded to 130.

CAR

  • There is a 100 rack CAR to service the building, with a separate 24 rack CAR for the incoming lines circuits.

Pilot System

ATG also hosted and served as Project Manager for the Pilot Project in the UK for the file-based Media Management System integral to the Cyberjaya Broadcast Centre project. Omnibus Workflow Managers are used to control multiple Quantel Ingest & Production Servers, Omneon TX Servers and a DIVArchive/Storagetek archive system to deliver the required automated media processing. The system currently uses manually triggered workflows. A project is underway to provide integration to the Broadcast Management system which will then provide automated workflows.

ASTRO now splits its broadcasting operation between Cyberjaya and its current All Asia Broadcast Centre (AABC) in Kuala Lumpur about 25km to the north of Cyberjaya. The AABC will shortly be upgraded to match the Cyberjaya facilities to allow both sites to operate as a single integrated tapeless broadcast facility and to mirror media storage between the two sites using a high capacity inter-site data link.

Graham Stephens, ASTRO CTO commented: “ATG were chosen for their track record in delivering large-scale file based transmission systems in Europe and their understanding of the associated complex networking requirements. They have proved very valuable in assisting ASTRO to specify and design a fully-scaleable, non-blocking, multi-site system architecture.”
