Broadcast Asia 2009 report22-06-2009
ATG Broadcast reports vibrant Broadcast Asia 2009
ATG Broadcast reports a confident and forward-looking south-east Asia market reflected by a vibrant Broadcast Asia 2009 exhibition. Held at the Singapore Expo June 16-19, the show attracted visitors from a wide catchment area encompassing the Middle East, India, mainland Asia and Australasia.

"Our principal objective in continuing to support the event was to demonstrate our ongoing commitment to existing and potential clients in south east Asia," comments ATG Broadcast Managing Director Guy Elliott. "Many countries in the region are making serious investment in broadcast infrastructure as they advance from SD and 'HD-ready' capability to full 1080i HD production and playout. Broadcast Asia also gave us the opportunity to network with representatives from key manufacturers.

"The transition from SD into HD is currently progressing here as elsewhere, being a key element of the global switchover from analogue to digital transmission. Almost every broadcaster and playout centre currently delivering SD services is looking to upgrade to HD when market conditions are right. These conditions are dictated not just by the availability of funding but by audience expectations and pressure from competitor channels.

"Singapore is certainly sustaining its appetite for electronic devices and services. A domestic electronics show held in the city centre during the same week as Broadcast Asia did brisk trade in consumer products such as digital cameras, HD television receivers and mobile phones, sold with all the noise and gusto associated with high-street stalls. Many of these products are actually made in this region for worldwide sale so it is little surprise that electronics-related business in south-east Asia remains buoyant."
